Accessibility Practices

An ad-hoc working group explores and supports access needs for SURJ members. We also consider our work in the context of disability justice and intersectionality. Our goal is to create a culture at SURJ@SacredHeart of anticipating, rather than reacting to, access needs and to make community organizing accessible to all without placing the burden of advocacy on our members with access needs. Racial justice work is highly intersectional, and we aim to create an environment that is barrier-free, recognizing that every person is an asset and their strengths and contributions are needed.  We also realize we have a long way to go. We recognize that there are as many different access needs as there are people in SURJ. SURJ’s accessibility practices are an ongoing work in progress. If you have an access need that you want to work with us on please email jenm@sacredheartcs.org.
